Self-Worth and Self-Esteem: The Chakras involved in our sense of self

Updated: Oct 17, 2023

If you find yourself struggling with self-esteem and self-worth, you are not alone. So many of us struggle with these and other related affects of chakras that are imbalanced. Our sense of self-worth and self-esteem are based in the solar plexus, as well as elements of our self-love, also attributed to the heart chakra. We are not always comfortable in our own skin or with our own thoughts.

If you have had a hard go at life, maybe school was difficult, or your parents weren't supportive or attentive, or maybe you went through a tragic breakup or tragedy. Any number of these can make an impact on our chakras, especially those related to self-esteem, -efficacy, and -worth. Our sense of self-control is controlled by our sacral chakra, control is greatly related to our sense of self. Additionally our heart chakra is often affected when we feel negatively towards ourselves (especially if any negative feelings/thoughts were reinforced by others in our lives). If you have are lacking a sense of safety due to any causes, money, home-life, or other triggers, your root chakra is affected. It is often rare to have only one chakra depleted, imbalanced, or blocked; very often events in our lives affect every chakra.

The good news is that you don't have to live like that; you don't have to suffer without coping and healing. Though this may seem like a daunting and impossible task, it is not hard to start balancing your energy (and chakras) one little step at a time. For instance, if you find yourself worrying what your family, co-workers, friends, or classmates think about you, it may be helpful to develop an affirmation (positive thought) to say to yourself during these times. Since we all think differently and thusly respond to different ideas and notions, here are a few different affirmations to try:

"What others think of me are their thoughts, not mine"

"I am not responsible for what others think or feel"

"I choose to focus on learning to accept and love myself with each day, rather than focusing on what others think of me."

"Only positive thoughts will flow through my forcefield." (see forcefield exercise) https://www.stardustwitchshop.com/post/what-does-your-forcefield-looklike

Remember to take baby steps, that means if you forget to use an affirmation or if you begin to focus on what others might think, please do not "beat" yourself up. Each time you notice an unwanted/intrusive thoughts, you gain more mindfulness and awareness of your own thoughts. As time goes on you will say affirmations without having to put much thought into it. I know this may sound unbelievable, but I am living proof that it does happen. After my son was born in late 2018 I lacked confidence in my ability to be a "good" mother. My self-esteem had plummeted since I felt I could no longer cope with my mental health conditions and physical pain disorders; my life had become very lonely and sad. My chakras had become imbalanced and blocked by various elements and events. I yearned to feel happy and healthy. I didn't believe that affirmations, positive self-talk, meditations, mindfulness, and herbs would ever help. I am hear to say that it may take some time, as it does a baby to go from standing to running. You deserve to feel self-love, even if you have no idea what that feels like. You deserve to take those baby steps.

I try to relate much of my work to chakras and psychology. I have a Masters in psychology with a minor in sociology, and as I learned about metaphysical healing I began to notice a correlation between the thoughts we have about ourselves, others, our environment and their effects on my physical and spiritual (energy) body. Slowly I began to read more on chakras and practice various techniques to balance them (and myself). This does not mean that every day is joyous or that I have no more complications or disorders, it simply means that I am better able to understand and care for myself.

I have created various items for chakras related to self-love, self-esteem, and self-worth:
